paper plate wreath craft for toddlersIsn’t this paper plate wreath craft cute? We love crafts that are nice and easy to make, after all if it’s not achievable then it’s not as much fun! I’ve shared some Children’s Christmas wreath ideas before but this wreath craft was actually inspired by the scrunched paper Christmas trees I made with my kids when my daughter was a toddler.

Christmas Wreath Craft

This wreath craft looks great and it’s super easy to make too.

It was originally designed as a Christmas wreath craft for toddlers but my six year old loved making it too so it’s definitely good for kids in preschool and early years school too.

In fact I enjoyed making it too – scrunching paper feels so good right? It’s really sensory and calming which can be pretty handy this time of year.

Tearing paper is also a great fine motor activity for kids so as well as this craft looking great you can be happy in the knowledge that you’re helping to strengthen the muscles in their hands too.

As with all crafts and activities you’ll need to supervise your child while you make this.

Toddlers will certainly need an adult to cut out the centre of the paper plate and older children might need you to do it too but they can certainly join in with the rest of the craft, gluing, tearing, scrunching and sticking.

How To Make A Paper Plate Christmas Wreath

To make this craft you’ll need to start with a paper plate, prepare it for your child by carefully cutting out the centre of the plate leaving a nice wide rim for their craft.

Next up is gluing, either encourage your child to squeeze glue across the paper plate wreath or they could spread it over the plate with a glue spreader.

Grab some red and green tissue paper and tear it up in to pieces, this is such a nice sensory material to work with and of course it’s a good excuse to talk about how it sounds and how it feels.

Squish the tissue paper up into balls and stick it onto your paper plate to decorate it.

If you’d like the red ‘holly’ bits to be a bit more spaced out the you could always glue these down first and then add the green ‘leaves’ afterwards but I think however your child does it is pretty much perfect anyway.

I’ve used scrunched red tissue paper for the holly berries on this wreath but you could use red pom poms instead.
