Scrunched Paper Christmas Tree Craft

This activity is a great if your looking for crafts for toddlers but my son who was older also really enjoyed it too.

It would be great to make these and use them on the front from Christmas cards or you could make a load of them and tie them together using some string or bakers twine* to make a festive garland.

You could also use a hole punch to make a hole in the top and tie some string through to make these into Christmas tree ornaments.

Tissue Paper Christmas Tree Craft Materials

Free Christmas Tree Template

I drew our Christmas tree’s freehand but if you’d like to make sure your trees look a bit more symmetrical than mine, or if you have a large number to prepare then why not check out our free Christmas tree template.

This makes larger Christmas trees and would be great printed out on some green cardstock to help save you time.

Making our Christmas Tree Crafts

Where we currently live I don’t have much access to craft shops which means my ideas will often come much quicker than any supplies I need!

When I thought up this craft I didn’t have any green card* so instead I cut some Christmas tree shapes out of a cardboard box and painted them green. If you are more organised than me then card will obviously be quicker to do, but the painted version worked just as well.

A bonus of using normal card though is that it’s pretty thick, allowing it to cope with large amounts of glue without going all soggy.

It also means that they’d make better Christmas tree decorations as they have that added bit of weight too.

Once your tree shapes are ready get your kids to make some glue dots on the tree and then you are ready too add your ‘baubles’.

Tearing and scrunching the tissue paper is great for fine motor skills and having a variety of colours meant that we could discuss those as well, if you want a colour of tissue paper passed to you you have to use the correct name for it!

At six years old my sons ‘baubles’ were generally quite small, mine were a bit more uniform (which you’d kinda expect as I’m substantially older) and at three years old my daughters started off quite small but then she just really wanted to cover all her tree so they got a little more flamboyant. All of them looked super cute!
