Farm books for kids preschoolers toddlersI love it when you can link an activity to sharing a story with your child and as we have so many farm animal crafts I thought it would be good to share some farm books for kids too.

RELATED – Farm Animal Crafts

The farm books that I’m sharing today are mainly aimed at preschoolers and toddlers but you’ll find that there’s some that will certainly suit older children too. I know that my daughter enjoyed Julia Donaldson’s books as a toddler but now that she’s seven they still get read.

Hopefully these will all be books that remain popular with your children too!

As well as these farm stories I’ve also linked to some of our favourite farm animal crafts at the end of this post, they’re great for making alongside these books and perfect if you are looking at a farm unit at school or preschool or of course just if you fancy some creative time at home together.

I have included links to affiliate programmes in this post if you click on these and buy I may earn a small commission.

Farm Books for Kids

Goodnight Tractor

My kids loved the Goodnight… books by Michelle Robinson and Goodnight Tractor is the perfect farm themed book for kids to help them get ready for bed.

What The Ladybird Heard

Like a lot of families Julia Donaldson books have filled up a large proportion of our bookshelves and What The Ladybird Heard was one of my kids favourites. While in the series the ladybird goes to different places, the first book is set on a farm and is a great one for reading aloud. Our copy is very well worn!

Spot Goes To The Farm

The Spot books are always a big hit with younger kids and Spot Goes to the Farm is perfect with it’s cute baby animals. This is also a lift the flap book which is fun for kids too and is available as a boardbook.

Little Blue Truck

Little Blue Truck is a sweet book about friendship that includes a lot of farm animals. Little Blue Truck is so popular that the series now includes other stories such as a Halloween and springtime theme but this story is the original.

A Squash and a Squeeze

Another Julia Donaldson book with large chunks that I can still recite by heart, so many times have we read this! A Squash and a Squeeze is a really good book for kids (and arguably adults) as it reminds us to be grateful for and appreciate what we already have.

Big Red Barn

Big Red Barn is a great book for preschoolers with its simple rhyming text. A classic farm book for children with lovely illustrations.

Around The Farm

Eric Carle is well known to many parents due to his classic books like The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Brown Bear, Brown bear, What Do You See and Around The Farm is hugely popular too with it’s sound buttons which give 30 different sounds for your child to press while you read this book together. Interactive books are a great way to keep your child engaged while you read and I love the wide array of animals in this book including goats, pigs, sheep and cats.

Sleep Tight Farm

Follow this simple story aimed at preschool and kindergarten aged kids as Sleep Tight Farm shows how the farm changes across the seasons and prepares for winter.

Mrs Wishy-Washy’s Farm

Mrs Wishy-Washy’s Farm has some great reviews from parents and teachers, a fun read that’s great for preschoolers.

Pete The Cat: Old MacDonald Had a Farm

Pete the Cat books always seem to be super popular with parents and Pete The Cat: Old MacDonald Had a Farm sees Pete singing the classic nursery rhyme alongside the  normal bright illustrations.

Got some paper plates? Why not try making our cow craft?

Finally we used shredded paper for this pig craft but if you don’t have any then it’s fine to just grab the pink paint instead, it will still look great!
