The Cricut Maker Machine The Best Price Available + Review

Before the Cricut maker machine, I used the Explore Air 2. Life before the Cricut Explore Air 2 was a Sizzix Portrait machine, and before that, it was a Sizzix. You can see the evolution from that journey from a small manual machine to an A4 machine and then to a wireless machine with the ability to cut 12×12.

About The Cricut Maker:

This is a revolutionary machine that makes die-cutting practically anything, a complete cinch. Take a tour around the machine:

What Can the Cricut Maker Do?

The Cricut Maker can cut over 300 hundred materials quickly and precisely. From tissue paper and fabric to tough stuff like balsa wood and mounting board. How many things could you make with the choice of 300 materials to start with?!

It can also emboss, draw and perforate. That’s just a quick selection of everything it can do. Otherwise, we’d be here all day.

What Makes It Unique?

Remember when I shared my personal journey with die-cutting machines above? I went through a couple of brands and settled on Cricut. Honestly, I feel a little Goldilocksy at the moment but that’s ok, you’ll understand why in a moment;

Truthfully, there is no other machine available on the market like the Cricut Maker machine.

Pros And Cons

Let’s start with what I love about the Cricut Maker, there are so many I struggled to choose my favourite but to start with; it’s wireless! Yes, you do need to be there but not having a 12-foot cable (what I was using with my Sizzix) lying around the room, ideal for the lady on crutches to end up in the emergency room.

Cricut Machine and Infusible Ink set
  • There’s a space for my iPad. I use the Cricut Design Space app because I try to keep my computer as free from excess software as I can.
  • It’s so FAST. 10x Faster than the Explore air machine
  • The cutting is incredibly precise
  • It’s surprisingly easy to set up and use
  • The range of materials it cuts is INSANE, I will never cut half of them but it’s still amazing
  • It engraves. ENGRAVES! You could engrave a pet collar or a necklace (must be flat)
  • The mats can handle delicate material but you must have the correct mat, they come in different tackiness
  • One button push and you can switch the blades in the little housing, it’s so fast!
  • There’s a huge library of projects available through Cricut access
  • It’s compatible with old Cricut tools and will be for future tools
  • The rotary blade and how well it tackles material and sticker paper (what I usually use it for)
  • There’s space to hold your tools while you work
  • You can buy additional blades for scoring, engraving, perforating and cutting things like wood
  • The Design Space app is great; works quickly and as it should
  • Available with different coloured lids

Damaged mat

  • I found it quite difficult to make my mats adhesive again and it’s a big waste of plastic
  • One of my mats arrived damaged
  • Tools come separately (but I did receive the Essentials Bundle which includes tools)
  • The knife blade is sold separately
  • Design Space software for the computer is too large and sluggish to work effectively
  • The quality of ‘Print and cut’ is not great and prints out similar to a low resolution when I would normally print them at 300dpi. I had a far better experience with the Sizzix machine for that.

My Experience With The Cricut Maker

The reason I made the switch from a Sizzix Big Shot machine to a Silhouette machine was because of the issues I was encountering as a chronically ill woman. I was EXHAUSTED turning that flipping wheel. So much so that I would have to dedicate one day to cutting dies for a project and the next day to the project steps. Being able to do it digitally was an absolute life changer and I was able to create so much more.

Fast forward to this current decade; I received a Cricut Maker Bundle and I was delighted.

Cricut vinyl and cricut tools

Since I was upgrading a machine, as soon as I switched it on and opened the Design Space app, I was able to register my machine quickly. That was great and made the set up so much faster than I expected.

My first project using this machine was using Infusible Ink (tutorial coming soon) and the process was incredibly straight forward. The thing I spent the most time on, was deciding what I was going to put on the front of that pouch in that cool, super-bright cheetah print.

Poopers was almost front and centre for a moment but I thought that I would actually use the little pouch as a make-up bag, so I decided to be practical.

Final Verdict in the Cricut Maker Bundle Review

Despite there being a few negatives with the Cricut Maker machine, overall it’s an impressive tool. The ability to cut so many varied materials genuinely blows my mind and the craft project possibilities are almost endless. I highly recommend this Cricut Maker bundle to anyone considering buying a die cutting machine.

Most crafters are chronically ill, so I know you’re familiar with the exhaustion that comes with something as simple as standing up. Let alone using all the force required to push dies through a manual machine. Eugh. No thank you! I’ll take the Cricut Maker every time.
