In light of the mandate for social distancing (due to the COVID-19 pandemic), many in-person activities are being reimagined online. You can, for instance, watch the Metropolitan Opera perform nightly live-streams and take an afternoon to peruse some of the world’s top art museums. But if you’re itching to be outside among nature, Google Arts & Culture has made it possible for you to take a virtual walk through the amazing U.S. national parks.

There are a couple of ways you can marvel at the beauty of these special places. One way is by pointing your browser to The Hidden Worlds of the National Parks. You’ll be introduced to five experiences that you can take with park rangers. Each is a guided journey, and the rangers walk you through places that few set foot: the Kenai Fjords in Alaska; Hawai’i Volcanoes in Hawaii; Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico; Bryce Canyon in Utah; and Dry Tortugas in Florida. The tours highlight not only the immense beauty of these places but the variety of terrain in the vast United States.

Beyond the special series, Google Earth has made it possible for you to visit more national parks. You generally can’t get as close to the landscape as you do in The Hidden Worlds, but you’ll certainly see just how wondrous those places are—and start dreaming of places to visit in the future.
